The Ministry of Health of Santa Fe announced the incorporation of a new stage in the dengue vaccination campaign. In this stage, people aged between 20 and 59 years who have suffered from the disease and required hospitalization will be inoculated.
The first to receive the QDenga vaccine were adolescents aged between 15 and 19 years living in vulnerable areas. Subsequently, health personnel, firefighters, and police aged between 20 and 59 years were added. According to the Secretary of Cooperation, Cristian Cunha, a total of 831 hospitalized people due to the dengue outbreak in 2023 and 2024 will be contacted to receive the vaccine.
During a press conference, Cunha highlighted that the province faced an outbreak with 600 thousand cases and 41 deaths. So far, 40 thousand vaccines have been administered, which represents 47% of the total doses acquired. The Director of Prevention and Health Promotion, Analía Champitaz, urged people on the list to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Recently, the first autochthonous case of dengue in the province was confirmed. It concerns a 59-year-old man, a resident of the Castellanos Department, with no travel history to other provinces or abroad. The patient was treated at a private clinic and his health condition is good. This detection places Santa Fe among the eight Argentine jurisdictions that have reported autochthonous cases of dengue, joining Chaco, Formosa, the Province of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, Tucumán, and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
